Inspired by the organic design language of nature, this trellis in the shape of a leaf was created in collaboration with the sculpture artist Siegfried Airfler. The flat packed arbour was fairly easy to construct, although assistance from another person (or a third hand!) would have been useful. It was fiddly to get the arch to form a neat circle and awkward to get the gates ‘balanced’ as they kept swinging open. This was possibly because the ground was not perfectly level. I solved both problems by selecting a raised patch of ground, on which the gates could rest.
