Leighton was famous for his medieval and chivalric work, and God Speed is an excellent example. Here we see wall art of a lady bidding farewell to her lord as he goes off to war. She ties a bright red sash to his arm as a token, an act meant to assure his safe return. The gryphon in the foreground symbolises strength and courage. This piece speaks of the pure, high-minded ideals of a medieval world that, sadly, never was.
- On each square inch of fabric, the tapestry has 80 wefts and 170 warps which is equivalent to 20 feet of cotton thread.
- The wall hanging rod and tassels are not included.
