My good friend Michael recently called me a psychopath for having no faith in the review systems provided by service websites. I did my best to clear my name, by pointing out that quite often customers are offered a reward or incentives to leave a review and this devalues the entire process. He countered with an example, that an honest review of a good second hand car sales person would allow future buyers to purchase a car with confidence. I fear he might have a point and with no experience of leaving reviews, I have limited ammunition to throw back. A quick an easy way to rectify this is to leave a review on my recent purchase of The Kerns 133cm Tripod Floor Lamp and on unrelated note I could win a £500 shopping spree! Description: This lamp is so proud of its height of 133cm, it has included it in the title. However when you scroll down to the small print contained in Weights & Dimensions it turns out to only be 132 1/2cm. I am not going to mark the lamp down for exaggerating. There have been moments in my life where I have tried to get myself noticed and I haven’t been shy about allowing the viewer to overestimate my abilities. I was however, encouraged to check for myself and having just measured the lamp, I make it 130cm! Again it feels unfair to mark the lamp down, I too, on occasion have found myself unable to provide the full number of centimetres, I had promised. Delivery: The website provided an estimated time for delivery and to its credit they were exactly right. I did have an issue with the courier website, which was very insistent on a tracking number, which was not provided to me. Without the ability to track the package, its arrival was going to be a complete surprise. There have been a few occasions in my life when I have enjoyed a surprise. The day my father, a rather strict man, treated my sister and I to a pair of 2ltr bottles of full fat Coca-Cola one Saturday afternoon springs to mind, however the enjoyment was short lived as his next act was to tell us he was divorcing our mother. It was hard to forgive a man, who at his age, should have known bottled cola goes flat very quickly once opened and individual cans are worth the extra expense. The surprise delivery arrived at 5pm on the estimated day of delivery, interrupting our family dinner. The parents reading this will understand how welcome a distraction can be when conversing with children. Packaging: I ordered two lamps. Partly I liked the idea of the room having some symmetry and partly because my partner is never satisfied. Over the years I have developed ways of preempting what the next crazy request will be. Much like Chris Pratt in Jurassic World, I alone have developed an unspoken relationship that allows me to know how to keep her calm and under control. On this occasion two lamps gave her the flexibility to light the room from two separate angles. The lamps themselves unsurprisingly, came in cardboard boxes full of polystyrene. If you want to cut down on this style of packaging, may I recommend your local car-boot sale. Whilst I too want to reduce the amount of plastics in the world, I do not want this at the expense of a dented lamp. If it’s a choice between my partner’s bad mood or a dead turtle, I’m afraid Leonardo loses. Assembly: The lamps require assembly. The lamp has three legs which form a tripod, coincidently some years ago, I worked with a man with just such a nick name, he was very popular with the girls in the office. Just like those girls, I would describe the assembly as easy and I was finished in under 3 minutes. This left me with plenty of time to work out if polystyrene can go in the recycling. I am reasonably confident it cannot, so I will be asking one of my children to hide it in the neighbours bin, I will of course wait until after dark, as per social convention. Result: The lamps look very nice in the room. They are not quite as bright as I was expecting, but I have the same problem with one of my children and I love them all the same. I inadvertently appear to have reviewed this lamp on 5 criteria, which lends itself nicely to the star rating system. I would only mark them down for not providing the tracking number, but that would be 1/2 a star at most. If Wayfair are happy to round up the height of their lamp, I am happy to round up to five stars. Great Lamp! . James. Chelmsford. 2020-09-16 18:48:09
