I chose this to replace an electric fire, as I loved the idea of a real flame, and something that would provide a little heat in the event of a power failure. I'm really pleased!! There isn't an inch of shiny tacky plastic in sight, so already it's an improvement over the old electric one in my living room! The colour is a dark matte grey rather than black. It looks sturdy and nicely finished. One part arrived damaged from delivery, but Wayfair and the manufacturer sorted it out promptly and with no fuss. I have used it twice now. The flame is attractive, and it does put out a modest amount of heat. I keep the living room door open to ensure a good supply of air, and there is a new carbon monoxide alarm in the room for safety. It does create a smell as it burns, which is rather reminiscent of a high school chemistry lab. But it's not strong and not unpleasant by my standards. Worth it for the advantages!.
