I already wrote a review but it doesn't seem to be showing. This bed looks great, and the velvet material is nice as expected. There are a few very clear issues with the design and quality of this bed.
First impressions, the cardboard packaging was slightly damp and musty. I've never had this problem with other flatpack products, which are always packaged pristinely and I wouldn't mind storing them in my house for a few days until I get round to setting them up. For this product, I wanted to get rid of the packaging quickly.
The legs were very low quality dyed wood, e.g. part split, not evenly dyed, roughly drilled, and one had a big glob of wet wood glue, which nearly ruined my carpet when taking them out of the box.
The instructions are terrible. They are very brief and ambiguous. For example, the fasteners are not shown in an assembled state, so it isn't clear where the hooks go in relation to the bolt, washer and split washer. And the order of assembly isn't stated, so it's unclear whether the hooks need to go on first and tightened in place, or hooked over the top of the fasteners. How did nobody spot this before it was printed?
The bed has a fatal design flaw. The headboard is attached at two closely-spaced fasteners on each end of the sideposts. Due to their closeness and the height and weight of the headboard, there is a lot of moment on these fasteners, meaning that the headboard is poorly supported, and the fasteners may loosen over time. If you accidentally lean on the headboard, you risk fasteners pulling out, or the wood splitting around that area, in any case causing permanent damage to the bed. I've seen this happen with beds of identical construction. You should lean this headboard flush against a wall or support to avoid stresses at these fasteners (though for nearly everyone this isn't entirely possible because you probably have a wall skirting).
I do really like the style and aesthetics of this bed. It took less than a couple of weeks to deliver. I'm now very happy with it and love my nice black velvet bed. But there is also room to improve with structural design, parts quality, packaging and the instructions.. Jay. Coventry, GB. 2017-12-20 13:13:29
